This current bridge broke ground in 2015 after plans were announced to build it on November 29th, 2011. The bridge was completed in 2017. The bridge replaced a steel trestle built in 1875 by the Erie Railroad. The sad thing is, the state was given the opportunity to convert the old trestle to a pedestrian crosswalk, but they refused citing a lack of funding. Those two foundations are all that remain of the old bridge; all the other remaining pieces were scrapped.

Letchworth State Park's first stop here. This Genesee Arch bridge has plenty of history. This can be viewed from the inspiration point. It's so picturesque from that distance and the fall leaves make it perfect. The history bit is that in 1800 this was installed built as a wooden bridge and then in 1875 they changed it to a metal bridge. There is the man-made canal near by for which they needed this bridge. In 1999, they reevaluated the condition of the bridge and decided to rebuild the metal bridge. This is when the Arch structure was built. The bridge still looks brand new and is gloriously huge in the park. There is a tiny parking lot by this place and a long hike trail. We saw plenty of people walk the path and the water fall sound here is pretty too. This is a must visit spot when you come the Letchworth State Park. The entry here is only 10 dollars.

In fairness, I'm sure the bridge is gorgeous. I actually didn't get to see it. I believe it resides in a state park that requires paying a fee. I can't spare any extra money - so wasted trip for me.
